Hy^^
First of all i must say this game looks so damn nice and the idea is Amazing.
keep on the great work because i really looking forward to this game.
Okay there are people that say "ohh another minecraft clone".
But be sure... there are many people who would support you including me.

but i have one question...
in the videos on your channel you show aliens and defense-towers.
is this content in the techtest which i downloaded or will it implemented in the next versions?

The aliens and defense towers are not in the Tech-Test. I'm working on polishing up the engine first before i concentrate on gameplay modes.

I had a look around and it seems this is a 5 to 6 year old laptop with integrated graphics. I read one post that seemed to suggest that it lacked Hardware Transform and Lighting.

I'm afraid it sounds like your hardware isn't totally compatible...

http://www.nvidia.com/object/mobogpu_nb_7series_specs.html

This only lists DirectX 9.0. I would have thought it would have listed DX 10 if it were supported <shrugs>.

You could try downloading the latest drivers and see if you get any joy from that, but it is just clutching at straw i'm afraid.

Sorry about that. Sad

New release available. (download from same location)

Major Changes

Switch to deferred rendering.

This took quite a bit of effort but the big payoff is i now have available a potentially large number of dynamic lights.
I've currently only used these for build / dig animations and the player light. I only have point lights in atm but plan on getting spotlights up and running too.

Also, this has the potential to cripple some of your computers speed wise so i've added in some performance and info logging to see what is happening on your PC's.

Logging of performance and machine info.

I'm logging some info now, namely OS version, RAM, CPU. I also log some details about engine performance.
Engine performance is things like; how long to build a chunk, average frame rate etc.
Data will be logged when you log in, 5 seconds after you start a game and then every 5 minutes, or when you log out.
There is no personal information logged.

I've also added a basic scoring facility and have included a top 5 display, accessible from the start page.

Minor changes

Water has been improved, sky has been improved (still needs more work Sad ).

There are some new blocks, a few more keys you can redefine, and a mystery object to discover Smile

Oh, and the Non HD render path is probably broken atm. I'm not sure if anyone was using it and after researching some of the logged stats i will make a decision as to whether to keep it.

You may want to back up you original installation before installing this (or install it in a different folder).

I fully expect it to run like dog, but will be very happy if it doesn't.

You need Windows 7 or Windows Vista since BlokWorld uses DirectX 10 (which is not available on XP).

Version Available (Take 2) - Page 3 Empty Update?

Post by croxxx Thu Nov 24, 2011 1:01 pm

Hi Slaihne.
I've seen it's been quite a long time since the last update.
I'm curious what takes so much time to implement (multiplayer, enemies,...) or is it just a lack of time?
I hope I'll have the time to build something again soon...

Hi Croxx,

I've been busy with my day job the last month or so so haven't had much time. Couple that with a dose of the flu that took a couple of weeks to shift properly and my time and energy has been wrecked Sad

I am still working on bits and bobs and hope to have a new release before Christmas.

Here's an example of the sloped blocks as they stand now.

https://blokworld.forumotion.co.uk/gallery/General-Images/More-Slopes-pic_18.htm

Every block can be sloped atm.

Hi Powerzan,

When does the issue occur?
Do you get to the login screen?
Does it happen as soon as you run it?
Have you installed the SlimDX runtime?

Post by Slaihne Wed Jan 04, 2012 11:21 am

I thought i'd stick up the current version for you guys to try.

It's available from the same location as linked in the first post.

There are a number of things changed and some in progress.

The bad...

Landscape is currently being reworked to give better sense of different types it's very bare and a bit weird at the moment.
The map is still showing the old landscape, just use it as a way of seeing where you've built and not what the landscape is like.
Water is turned off due to the landscape changes.
There's something screwy going on with the lighting on the 4th selector section. The lights should still show correctly in the world though.
There's a new save format now, so your old maps will not work with this version (clear out the testsave folder if you're putting this in the same location).
The save format is pretty experimental and may have bugs, let me know if you see any.
No proper slope collisions.

The Good

The new save format is huuuugely smaller.
Slopes now a first class citizen in terms of building / landscape.
You can build slopes. Select the style of slope you want by clicking on the lower area and then use the rotate keys to rotate.
These keys are redefinable on the controls customisation section.
You should be able to see a ghost image of the sloped block you are about to build.
Every block (except those that are models) can be sloped.

Try out the slopes and try building some stuff.
I've worked for ages on making sure there are no light leaks but i bet i've missed some combos so let me know if you you get light leaking where it shouldn't be.
Or light NOT filling into an area it should be filling.

I've done quite a bit of work on a server and am working on that side at the moment.

Have fun and take care.

In terms of the landscape i am working on the following path...

I use simplex noise to categorise regions as being one of a few main types of lanscape. plain, swamp, desert, mountain etc.

The tricky part was getting the areas to blend in together. You don't want mountains getting suddenly cut off as they transition into desert or plains or else all the mountains will be surrounded by cliffs all the time.

It's nothing special really just a slightly different way of doing it. I'm not happy with the actual content of each region. The mountains are far to uniform for my liking and need more variation.

But the main thing i'm interested in here is how the sloped blocks work for you guys and all the lighting issues that go with them.
